Hello!
I'm Nicky, a former primary school teacher, arts coordinator and life-long crafty lady! Having left full-time teaching in 2019, I spend less time teaching and more time doing the things I love. A love of working with the wonderful textures and colours of wool felt naturally took me on the path of making wool felt items. I didn't anticipate the huge benefits this has brought me personally; it makes me slow down, relax and gives a sense of satisfaction as I see my creations decorate my home. With friends and family joining me and making my creations, and fellow crafty people popping along to my workshops, the natural next-step was to make kits for my projects; kits that you can pick up and put down - without the hassle of sewing machines! So here they are, accessible to all. I hope you enjoy them.
Mats to colour
your home.
Traditionally named 'Penny Mats', these
mats have a different theme to decorate your
home as the seasons change and
celebrations take place, whilst you will have had the joy of making it!

What are Penny Mats?
The History
Traditionally, these wool mats and rugs were made from scraps of felted wool from old clothing and blankets. They began as a collection of fabric circles, cut from coin templates, which were stitched together using blanket stitch to make decorative pieces for the floor, table, mantelpiece or bed.
Repopularised in the 2000s as a craft, these modern penny mats take the form of decoratively themed table mats with scalloped edges and include images of everyday objects: flowers, animals and aspects of traditional events can be used to decorate a penny mat.
They are a joy to make, using simple applique techniques to fuse colourful fabrics together, and add colour to the home.

Workshops
Workshops - held in Plymouth, Devon - take place throughout the year, but particularly around Christmas time when Christmas crafts and wreath workshops help build the excitement for the festive period.
